Section 9.1.5 of the Oil Storage Tank Design Code states that the end of the casing should extend at least 0.6 m beyond the foot of the slope or the roadbed; when it passes through a drainage ditch, it should extend 0.9 m beyond the edge of the ditch. What does this distance mean? ?
It means that if there is a flange connection, the flange should be located 0.9 meters away from the edge of the drainage ditch, in order to prevent leaks and to stop materials from falling into the ditch during maintenance.
Sleeves are used to protect pipelines that pass through subgrades or drainage ditches. The ends of these sleeves are designed to extend outward, thereby preventing water flowing from slopes or subgrades from seeping into the sleeves and corroding the pipelines inside them. Water continuously flows within the drainage ditch, and it can easily overflow or seep out through the sides of the ditch. If the length of the sleeve’s ends is short, water is more likely to seep in, which is detrimental to the pipes inside the sleeve.
