Guys, what type of pump do you choose for the unloading pumps on liquid transport tankers? Our company has chosen magnetic pumps, but they have many limitations during operation. I was wondering if anyone has any good suggestions?
What do you think of slide vane pumps?
What kind of material does the unloading pump discharge? Is it volatile? Why use a magnetic pump?
There are also magnetic-driven slide pump types; they have strong suction power, eliminating the need for a cleaning pump, and allow short periods of dry operation
We use self-priming pumps (the material is relatively safe)
Magnetic self-priming pumps can be used; they perform well in practical applications, but their price is high.
From the perspective of daily stable operation and maintenance, what kind of pump is better?
A regular centrifugal pump will suffice; a small buffer tank can be designed at the inlet. The company where I used to work also connected the tank truck directly to the pump inlet using hoses, and operation was no problem.
I have worked with LNG before; in hot weather, centrifugal pumps are prone to cavitation. I’m not familiar with magnetic pumps. As for why there are limitations, the original poster didn’t explain what those limitations are. Regarding the cavitation problem associated with ordinary centrifugal pumps, bucket pump systems can be used (though they are quite expensive). Currently, slurry pumps are the most common choice; they belong to the category of vane-type positive displacement pumps. They offer good sealing performance, stable flow rates, and it’s easy and economical to maintain or replace their slurry vanes.
