It is a chemical process pump (centrifugal pump); the process fluid is quite turbid, and the water temperature is around 110 degrees. The pump inlet is not blocked, but vaporization inside the pump prevents it from operating properly. The designed operating temperature of the pump is higher than the current water temperature in the process. Could someone expert please explain why?
There are certainly differences in the physical and chemical properties of the medium under normal operation compared to those specified in the design. In my opinion, the reasons for vaporization in centrifugal pumps are as follows: 1. The inlet filter is clogged, resulting in low inlet flow; 2. The inlet temperature is too high; 3. The inlet pressure head is low; 4. The pump model selected is inappropriate – it is possible to consult the design institute regarding modifications or replacements!
You can try operating the pump inlet valve at a limited capacity; this phenomenon occurs sometimes with our reboiler pumps, and normal production can be maintained if the inlet valve is not opened fully. I suggest you give it a try
