For a gas-fired heater, would it be better to use two valves before the burner inlet, with a ball valve on the upstream side and a globe valve on the downstream side? Is this the design of the newly installed device? The ball valve serves to shut off quickly after the flame is extinguished, while the globe valve is used to regulate the flow rate. We have a globe valve and a gate valve; it always seems that the time required to close the valves during accident handling is too long. With ball valves, it’s faster.

Such an idea is correct. However, in general, there is an automatic control valve along with a quickly closing interlocked shut-off valve.
Generally, they are ball valves and globe valves. In case of emergencies, the ball valve shuts off quickly; under normal conditions, the globe valve is used to regulate flow, and gate valves can also be used – any of them will do.

Does the poster mean to burn the furnace manually? No control valve installed? Can that furnace be stabilized? Manual valves alone cannot solve problems in an emergency situation; interlocks and quick shut-off valves must be installed in such cases
The old-style air guns wouldn’t stop burning as long as operation continued; later, high-efficiency burners were used, which theoretically could improve the combustion efficiency. However, a drawback was that if the primary and secondary air valves weren’t adjusted properly, the burner would stop working even when using natural gas. Therefore, ball valves were considered to allow for rapid closure of the valves once shutdown occurred.
