I have a question for fellow engineers regarding pipeline heat treatment: the material is 20# steel, and the heat treatment method used is stress relief at a constant temperature of 620 degrees. I’m facing a really annoying problem now: the staff at the heat treatment facility lack a sense of responsibility; they carried out heat treatment on some pipes that didn’t require it, and those pipes are also made of carbon steel. What I want to know is whether this will have an impact on the weld joint and whether there are any safety hazards. Experienced sea travelers, share your thoughts.
620°C is for stress-relief heat treatment, and the hardness will decrease. It has no effect on the pipeline.

It means that after welding in the areas that have already been heat-treated, heat treatment must be carried out again (which is rather troublesome); however, there are no issues with normal operation.
Residual stresses exist in pipes due to processing, welding, etc., which is theoretically unfavorable for their operation and use. But in reality, most operating conditions are indifferent to this type of stress, so there is no need to consider eliminating it (to save costs). This is an example of \"excess quality\"! ! ! :)
