Operating conditions: reduced-pressure residue, temperature of 180 degrees Celsius, outlet pressure of 6 Mpa. Sealing arrangement: the unit uses a single-face seal with steam-back cooling. The working area is rather dirty; the oil collection box is always dirty. An iron shield has been installed at the upper part of the rotating components at the rear end to prevent oil from accumulating, but the lower part remains very dirty. I’ve tried various solutions – has anyone encountered a similar situation? And how was it solved?
It seems that the root of this issue lies in the management of leaks, while maintaining hygiene is a matter of management; if hygiene still doesn’t improve despite repeated emphasis on it, then it becomes a philosophical issue
The company refuses to provide an upgraded seal; maybe there’s a problem with my management style, as I’m reluctant to evaluate the operators. Be decisive~
Bosses are always concerned about costs; assessment is not the best method when it comes to hygiene, but it can be useful at times!
If the sealing problem cannot be resolved, then carry out drainage. If drainage is not possible, be more diligent – just go and pour out the contents as well as wipe it clean every day

You can ask the seal manufacturer to make the changes for you; we have modified many seals here, and the seals of high-risk pumps have all been changed to double-face seals

Buy a double-end face seal and modify it yourself; the cost is even lower
Can’t I submit a request for a double-ended seal myself so that the repair shop can install it? If it is not possible to modify the sealing solution, a tank can be placed under the mechanical seal gland, with operators tasked with cleaning the oil in that tank promptly during routine inspections. Our factory also faces this issue: the pump continues to operate despite a slight leakage in the mechanical seal, and we can only rely on the operators to clean it up. However, with the implementation of 6S management, it goes without saying that the operators will clean the pumps thoroughly; linking it to wages is necessary to motivate employees.
