Issue with the diameter of the filter before the steam pressure reducing valve

I would like to ask everyone: based on my experience, the diameter of a steam pressure reducing valve is generally 1-2 sizes smaller than that of the inlet pipeline. In this case, how should the diameter of the filter installed before the pressure reducing valve be chosen? Is it to be consistent with the imported piping? Or the valve port diameter? Or the midpoint between the two? I’m currently choosing the middle values, but there’s no real basis for it.
Based on our past experience, it is usually the same size as the inlet pipe diameter; there is no need to change the diameter, which can reduce flow resistance
One of the key purposes of using a pressure reducing valve is that when the boiler pressure is high, less pressure is needed later on; therefore, reducing the pressure here seems pointless.
Does a larger diameter necessarily mean a higher price? I’m wondering if it’s possible to use a smaller one – is that necessary, given that changing the diameter is also quite troublesome.
