I am now looking to select an online analysis instrument for fixed installation on pipelines, where the medium consists of flammable gases (methane, heavier hydrocarbons, etc.) at a concentration of >50%, along with inert gases (primarily nitrogen)
Such a high proportion of flammable gases indicates that it is likely a fuel gas or similar type of medium. For accurate measurement, it is recommended to use an online chromatograph, as infrared gas analyzers have poor selectivity for mixed flammable gases and are unable to perform separate quantitative measurements at higher concentration levels; moreover, mixed concentrations pose significant interference for analysis purposes. The quantitative capability of catalytic combustion combustible gas detectors is too poor. The results of online chromatographic analysis can provide parameters such as composition, calorific value, and density.
It involves the compression and recovery of natural gas that has been liquefied and then re-gasified; this gas contains nitrogen. It isn’t necessary to know the exact concentration, but it is sufficient to determine that when the nitrogen content exceeds a certain level, it needs to be vented to a flare. The cost of using online chromatography for this purpose is somewhat high.
