What type of steam trap requires a filter? Do most steam traps need a filter installed in front of them?

Well, yes, but at our site, the hot-side outlet of the heat exchanger uses steam as the heat source. As for the condensate water from the heat exchanger, some drain valves are equipped with filters while others aren’t; I’m not sure why. The drain valves themselves are all the same
This post was last edited by ylb913 on 2016-9-15 07:27. It’s a matter of the designer’s philosophy. We’ve never seen filters installed in front of the numerous traps in our factory.

According to clause 5.0.3.3 of \"HG/T 20570.21-95 Installation of Steam Traps\", traps that do not come equipped with a filter must be installed. For your reference, 5.0.3.3: Hydrophobic valves generally come equipped with filters. If not provided, a filter should be installed in front of the valve; the filter element shall be made of stainless steel wire mesh with mesh holes of φ0.7–1.0 mm, and the filtering area must be at least 2–3 times the cross-sectional area of the pipeline.
