How is a modular sight defined, and what is the difference between it and a regular sight?

As the title suggests, I’m seeking help from experts.
HG 21505-92 \"Combined Sight Glasses\" applies to combined sight glasses that are directly bolted to nozzles or pipe ends with flange connections.
I’ve seen this standard; it only mentions the connections, without saying much about modular viewfinders. I don’t understand what a definition of such a thing is. Could it be several different types of viewfinders combined together? It still refers to the accessories for the viewfinder combined together, such as those with lights and so on.
