Sina Sports Report: On the evening of September 24th, Beijing time, the second semifinal of the 2016 Snooker Shanghai Masters was held. Ding Junhui performed steadily and defeated Stephen Maguire 6-3 to make it to the final. In this final, Ding Junhui, the champion of this event in 2013, will face Mark Selby, the champion from 2011, for the title of this year’s Shanghai Masters. Whichever player wins will put an end to the nine-year-long curse of no one having won the title more than once in the Shanghai Masters. 　　Ding Junhui’s match against Marshall started at 7:30 p.m. In the first frame, after a tense struggle, Marshall took the lead with a score of 31-4, but then made a mistake in his positioning and attempted an aggressive attack on the yellow ball; this mistake created a great opportunity for his opponent. Ding Junhui regained the advantage by scoring 35 points, but then the red ball moved out of position in the K corner. The two players continued to play defensively, and Ding Junhui seized the opportunity to take control of the game, winning the first frame 86-31. In the second frame, McGuire took the lead first; he reached 23 points before making a mistake and losing control of the ball. Ding Junhui took over but managed only 7 points before also making a serious mistake. McGuire regained control and won the frame 78-7, tying the score. 　　In the third frame, Ding Junhui was still unable to concentrate fully and made frequent mistakes; Marshall took control after a few attempts and won the frame 57-25, taking the lead back. In the fourth frame, Ding Junhui regained some of his form and scored 63 points in a single frame, bringing the score back to 2-2. In the fifth frame, Ding Junhui took the lead first, scoring 50 points in a single shot; however, he made a mistake when attacking the red ball that was positioned slightly close to the pocket. After that, Marshall also scored only 14 points and made a mistake as well. Ding Junhui failed to defend properly, and Marshall took control again, scoring 58 points in a single shot and bringing the score to 3-2. In the sixth frame, Ding Junhui scored on the red ball first, after which control of the ball changed hands. Marshall took a 18-1 lead before his attack was interrupted; Ding Junhui then scored 57 points in a single shot. When he tried to hit the red ball at the bottom corner from a very aggressive angle, his shot deviated significantly. Marshall regained the advantage with a score of 35-58. After that, both players switched to defensive play. After two more rounds, Marshall brought the red ball close to the top corner of the table, but the cue ball failed to cover it properly, allowing Ding Junhui to score and bring the score to 3-3. 　　In the seventh frame, Ding Junhui took the lead first; he had a chance to win the frame with a single shot, but he made a mistake midway. McGuire also failed to perform well and lost control of the ball, allowing Ding Junhui to win by 60-5 and take a 4-3 lead once again. The eighth frame was another one of stalemates and tight struggles; Marquez’s form kept declining, and he failed to seize the opportunities that came his way. After several attempts, Ding Junhui secured this crucial frame 80-23, taking a 5-3 lead and thus gaining the match point. In the ninth frame, Marshall took the lead first and scored 20 points. However, his diminished sense of touch and inability to concentrate led to more mistakes on his part. Although Ding Junhui also made errors while attacking the black ball after taking control of the game, he failed to capitalize on the unexpected opportunities that arose. Ding Junhui once again took control of the situation, scoring 69-20 to secure a victory and bring the score to 6-3, thus eliminating his strong opponent and advancing to the final where he will compete for the title against Selby.
