Hello, esteemed colleagues. I’m new to the wastewater treatment industry, and I work with chemical wastewater. Our first processing step involves skimming oil from the top and removing sludge from the bottom. But there’s too much sludge now; the sludge scraper simply can’t move! Do any of the more experienced colleagues have any good ways to handle this?

Should the sludge scraper operate continuously or intermittently? If it operates intermittently, it is recommended to switch to continuous operation; If it runs continuously, it is necessary to consider increasing the power or cleaning the sludge accumulated at the bottom of the tank before continuing operation; moreover, after stopping the water supply, the sludge should be scraped away for some time to prevent its accumulation.
If sludge accumulation is caused by the stoppage of the sludge scraper, the sediment can be removed before restarting it; the operating time and frequency of the sludge scraper should be adjusted based on the concentration of sludge discharged from the bottom of the tank.

An abundance of sludge indicates that the wastewater contains a high amount of particles that tend to settle; it may be advisable to add a pre-sedimentation tank, which can also serve as a regulating tank, with the effluent then being sent to an air flotation unit. This is the fundamental solution.
