Do steam boiler cylinders need to be equipped with safety valves? Is it sufficient to just install a pressure gauge and a thermometer? I’m referring to fuel or gas boilers with a capacity of less than 10 tons. Thank you
Check the pressure levels of the boiler and the auxiliary cylinders; if the pressure level of the auxiliary cylinders is higher than that of the boiler, then it’s not necessary to use them. For example, if the rated pressure of the boiler is 1.0 Mpa and the nominal pressure of the dividing cylinder is 1.6 Mpa, then it is not necessary to install it.

Pressure gauges and thermometers are installed on the water distribution valves of hot water boilers, while steam boilers have pressure gauges only in their steam distribution cylinders; thermometers are not required there.

If it belongs to the main steam header (in the case of two or more boilers), the pressure in the steam distribution cylinder is equal to that of the boilers. Since safety valves must be installed on boilers as per regulations, and their discharge capacity must be at least equal to the boiler’s maximum evaporation rate, it is unnecessary to install safety valves on the steam distribution cylinder; If the pressure in the steam distribution cylinder is lower than that in the boiler, then the steam in the cylinder must have been cooled and depressurized, or it must come from the turbine exhaust (in which case a cooling and depressurizing device operating in parallel with the turbine is required). Since a safety valve must be installed at the outlet of such a cooling and depressurizing device for safety reasons, there is no need to install a safety valve in this case as well. Therefore, in general, there is no need to install safety valves on the steam cylinders. Of course, if the design of the equipment and piping violates the process specifications, such as the absence of a safety valve at the outlet of the temperature and pressure reducer, then that is another matter.

According to clause B.3.3 of Appendix B to GB/T150.1, for containers that are connected to a pressure source and do not generate pressure on their own, the relief device does not need to be installed on the container body itself when the design pressure of the container reaches the pressure of the pressure source.
