A flow control orifice plate is installed on the return line between the outlet and inlet of the centrifugal pump. Can this flow control orifice plate be removed while the centrifugal pump is in operation? Why?

A flow control orifice plate allows for precise regulation of flow rate. It is certainly possible to control flow rate by adjusting the opening degree of a valve, but when used with corrosive media (causing erosion), long-term use of valves for flow control can damage them. As long as there are valves that can be closed in front of and behind the orifice plate, it can be removed.
I think the return line is designed merely to prevent the pump’s output flow from being restricted too much, as this could lead to pump blockage; it helps to stabilize the outlet flow. It does perform some unnecessary work, but once the pump operates at its normal flow rate, the return line seems unnecessary
It’s better to leave it in place to protect the equipment.
It is generally used as a startup line for protecting the pump, to limit flow and prevent damage to the pump.
The function of a flow-limiting orifice plate is to restrict the flow rate, preventing it from becoming too high! Dismantling is risky; installation requires caution!

It is supposed to be set to ensure the minimum flow rate of the pump. Your pump return line shouldn’t have a control valve, right?
