In the three-column distillation system, the potassium permanganate concentration in the atmospheric-pressure column is often unsatisfactory, while the pressure column functions normally. Some of the trays at the bottom of the atmospheric-pressure column have fallen off – could this be the cause? What measures should be taken when the tray cannot be repaired temporarily?
The detachment of the trays is likely due to issues with the purity of the water and ethanol used in distillation; it has little to do with the potassium permanganate level. You should check whether the parameters in the pre-distillation stage are not being controlled properly
The potassium permanganate value is mainly related to the removal of light components by the pre-distillation column, as well as to the temperature control in that column.
