It depends on the region; in places such as Suqian in Jiangsu, Ningxia, Shenzhen in Guangdong, Shandong, Hebei, Tianjin, and Henan, there is no need to take an English exam

It’s so frustrating – I passed the exams in English and computer science this year, only to find out that they’re no longer required. Continuing education credits are required each year, while English and computer skills are additional points for that year; just like papers and patents, they can also count as such points. :)
