How is the volume of the air tank used to control the air supply determined?

Generally, when there are multiple solenoid valves, a small air reservoir is installed in front of the valve assembly. How is the volume of this air reservoir calculated? Is it related to the cylinder volume of the pneumatic valve? I would also appreciate some advice from the experts, thank you!
I’m not too sure about this. I think if it’s for testing, one could try filling it with water
