What are the processes in which semi-coke is used for gasification? What about the cost-effectiveness?
I remember it was used for fixed-bed gasification of small nitrogen fertilizers in the past
Fixed-bed gasification is definitely no problem; it seems that experiments have also been conducted on water-coal slurry in China. Economics is mainly related to your coal price. It is estimated that graded utilization of coal would yield better economic performance.

The Pulverized Coal Gasification Center at the Institute of Coal Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences has been conducting semi-industrial demonstration experiments on semi-coke using ash-polymerized fluidized-bed gasifiers over the past three years, with pressures reaching 3.0 MPa. The semi-coke used is Shenmu semi-coke, and the diameter of the gasification furnace is 800. The effect is good; it enables effective reuse of the semi-coke by crushing it to 0-6 mm
Semicoke has been used in water-coal slurry gasification units since 2012; at that time, Shenhua Mengdong upgraded coal was used, and there were no issues with that – the concentration must have been quite high. Nowadays, some projects are utilizing semicoke for water-coke slurry gasification.
At Shanxi Fengxi, semi-coke gasification is carried out in Plant 1; Plant 2 uses pressurized coal slurry gasification. There are 3 Texaco gasifiers and 1 Yingde Qingda water-cooled wall gasifier, with the system operating at a pressure of around 4.0 MPa
