I work on offshore platforms, and the heat transfer oil pumps in use there are currently experiencing a series of problems. I would appreciate it if everyone could **help by suggesting ways to resolve these issues**. When the new platform was put into operation, some additional heat oil pipelines were installed, and hydraulic tests were conducted at that time. Due to a shortage of staff and tight deadlines at the beginning of operations, some end-users failed to completely remove the residual water from the pipelines before introducing heat oil into them. Although some water was later removed from those pipelines by the end-users, the results were not entirely satisfactory. The current problems are as follows: 1. Before the addition of new platforms, a single heat transfer oil pump was sufficient to meet the heating needs of all users on the platform; however, the installation of new heat oil pipelines has increased the head loss (a renovation at this time is not practical). 2. The inlet side of the heat transfer oil pump is currently under negative pressure, and the outlet pressure is not even half of what it should be during normal operation (the pump was disassembled, and slight wear was found on the inlet ring of the impeller). 3. When the heat transfer oil pump was started in accordance with the operating procedures and maintenance manual, the pressure suddenly dropped after about 4 hours of operation, and vibration in the outlet pipeline increased as well. 4. The liquid level in the heat oil expansion tank is also high enough
The moisture in the heat transfer oil wasn’t removed; you should have used air pressure for the pressure test at that time
The circulating oil pump may be suffering from cavitation; is the liquid level in your sump high enough? Also, has new oil been added recently or has it been operated above its temperature limit? ~~
