Our facility has an alcohol storage tank, and usually, material is loaded into the tank through holes in its top during unloading. Out of concern about static electricity explosions, we would like to ask about the correct method for loading material into the tank. I hope the experts here can help answer it
Extend the discharge pipe to the bottom of the tank or allow the alcohol to flow down along the tank walls.

The vehicles and tanks must be grounded; workers should wear anti-static clothing and avoid wearing shoes with nails, as well as staying away from heat sources. Operating procedures: 1. First, check that all loading, unloading, and conveying pipelines are in good condition and meet the anti-static requirements. 2. Check that the explosion-proof devices of electrical equipment are in good condition, with particularly tight seals in areas prone to loosening. 3. Select an appropriate location to connect the device’s power supply (try to keep it away from the work area). Ensure that the transfer pump is operating properly. 4. Connect the crossover wires for the transfer pump, railway tank car, grounding post, and road tank car. 5. Open the designated manhole on the train tank, and use a spark-free tool (an aluminum bucket) to obtain the material which will then be used as water to fill the suction pipe; insert the suction pipe all the way to the bottom of the train tank. 6. Check that the valves on the vehicle tank are closed, install the grounding wire for the vehicle tank, and then insert the delivery pipeline to the bottom to prevent material from splashing. 7. After passing the inspection by the safety personnel and obtaining their approval, open the pump inlet valve, start the pump, and slowly open the outlet valve to begin filling the material. 8. During the filling process, a dedicated person should monitor the tank truck to ensure that overfilling does not occur; the filling volume must not exceed 95% of the tank truck’s maximum capacity. 9. When stopping the pump, close the inlet valve of the pump first, then press the stop button, and subsequently close the outlet valve to prevent air from entering and causing the pump to fail. 10. First, remove the transfer pipes from the vehicle tank, then remove the grounding wires, and close the feed port cover to ensure a tight seal with no leaks. 11. When loading and unloading toluene at the dock, the tanker must maintain a good electrical connection to the water surface; its grounding wire can be integrated with the tanker’s delivery pipelines and then connected to the tankers’ tanks. 12. Pay close attention during the operation; if any abnormal phenomena occur, stop the operation immediately.
Bottom feeding can be used as the feeding method; in addition, the feeding flow rate must be controlled to prevent static electricity.

Feeding from either the bottom or the top is possible; there’s no need to mention feeding from the bottom. When feeding from the top, the feed pipe must be placed at a distance of 20 centimeters from the bottom of the tank, and this is done to reduce the generation of static electricity. The diameter of the pipe should comply with the design requirements, in order to control the flow rate, which generally should not exceed 3 meters per second.
