What are the hazards of liquid in a reciprocating compressor?
When the liquid hammer is mild, the cylinder may produce abnormal noises (such as knocking sounds) and the cylinder body may vibrate. In severe cases, water hammer can damage the cylinder, as well as cause damage to components such as the piston assembly, connecting rods, crossheads, and valves
Damage to the cylinder causes wear of the cylinder piston rings
Reciprocating compressors must absolutely not have liquid present in them. As mentioned on the second floor, this can lead to abnormal noises at best, damage to the valves, erosion of the cylinder passages, and in severe cases, damage to the cylinder body and piston components. It can also cause leakage of the medium and other associated hazards.
Cylinder knocking, loose back nuts, damaged valve plates, bent connecting rods, damaged bearing shells, and cracks in the head gasket occurred.
Liquid is incompressible; excessive motor power can cause the crankshaft to deform and get damaged over time.
The most common symptom of liquid in the compressor is extremely rapid damage to the gas valves. The newly replaced valve disc broke after just a few days, and even the valve cover suffered wear. In severe cases, it can lead to the breakage of the piston rod (usually at the point where it connects to the crosshead) as well as deformation or even breakage of the connecting rod.
