Under normal circumstances, the oil present in wastewater consists mainly of light oils; when this oil enters the wastewater stripping tower, the light oils vaporize rapidly, which causes an immediate increase in the gas load on the tower. This disrupts the gas-liquid equilibrium within the tower, and the resulting phenomenon is tower flooding.
