There are two approaches for MTBE desulfurization: one is pre-desulfurization, that is, desulfurizing the raw material, but this is time-consuming and labor-intensive, requires significant investment and high energy consumption; it is not recommended unless pre-desulfurization is necessary under specific operating conditions. Second is post-desulfurization, that is, desulfurization of the product; it requires relatively low investment, has a simple process, and most importantly, it offers excellent versatility. It is recommended to use this process.
Well, the new units these days mostly use post-tower desulfurization; it’s a simple process with low energy consumption
