The function of the isolation gas in reciprocating compressors
Prevent hydrogen leaks from reaching the crankcase and forming explosive gases!
The media used in reciprocating machines equipped with isolation gas are generally toxic, harmful, flammable, or explosive; therefore, it is necessary to prevent these media from escaping into the environment or reaching the bearing housing. As a result, isolation gas is usually provided at the end of the machine’s air seal or in an intermediate isolation box, along with isolation gas exhaust pipes that guide the gas leaking from the cylinder packing to a safe location for discharge.
