Some Haimitec shielded pumps have a water cooling system, while others have an external return pipe. Why is that, and what are the differences?
This is related to the selection of the pump; the design institute will take into account factors such as the type of material handled, temperature, pressure, viscosity, and so on. The external return pipe you mentioned is generally used for conveying the material that serves to flush the graphite bushings between the stator and rotor, and it relies on the surrounding environment for cooling
1. The external return pipe uses the outlet pressure to send the fluid back to the rear part, thereby keeping the entire rotor submerged in the fluid; the fluid is forced out of the pump chamber from the center of the impeller along its rim, and this process repeats itself. 2. Internal recirculation involves submerging the entire rotor in the medium through the rim and internal channels, returning from the tail end, and being forced out of the pump chamber along the rim from the center of the impeller, in such a cyclic manner. 3. Both of the above methods involve self-lubrication and self-cooling of the medium
Then why are some equipped with a water-cooled jacket?
The water-cooled version is simpler and more mature in design, as well as being cheaper; those that rely on cooling through the medium itself rather than water cooling are more expensive. I just asked them for a quote recently
