Currently, after synthesizing MTBE, it is being processed through cracking to produce high-purity isobutylene; efforts are being made to find a method for directly separating and purifying isobutylene from mixed C4 compounds；

I just started learning about this issue; I used to work in MTBE cracking technology, and I had previously communicated with foreigners – generally, 50-100 ppm of polymerization inhibitors are added to imported olefins； The isobutylene storage tanks installed by the original poster’s company did indeed encounter this problem; using a polymerization inhibitor is one possible solution, but it is necessary to communicate well with downstream customers to avoid any issues arising in their use of the product. It seems this was posted in the wrong thread, hehe!
It is not economically viable to directly separate the mixed C4 fraction to obtain high-purity isobutylene, especially since the boiling points of 1-butene and isobutylene differ by so little (less than 1 degree)； There has been little breakthrough in adsorption separation technology.
