Precautions for installing gear pumps: 5.1 Before installing a gear pump, it is necessary to check whether the pump body and the motor have been damaged during transportation. For example: whether the motor is damp, or whether the dust covers on the inlet and outlet of the pump are damaged, allowing dirt to enter the pump chamber. 5.2 The gear pump and motor are mounted on the base plate; when lifting them, the lifting ropes must be attached to the lifting rings on the base plate. When lifting the pump head alone, it must be lifted from the inlet and outlet flange pipes to ensure that the pump shaft is not subjected to external forces. 5.3 The gear pump should be installed in a dry and well-lit area. So that managers can observe the operation of the oil pump. If the oil pump must be installed near a wall, space must be reserved. It is easy to disassemble for maintenance; do not install the pump in damp areas or places exposed to sunlight, wind, and rain. If the installation site is at risk of flooding, the oil pump must be located above the highest water level. 5.4 The oil pump should be fixed to a solid foundation or base to prevent pipeline loosening and vibration, and bolts should be used to secure it to avoid plate deformation. If a pump head is installed separately on the machinery, it must be placed in a location with minimal vibration. 5.5 Before installing the inlet and outlet pipes, the inner walls of the pipes must be rinsed with kerosene; no debris is allowed to remain inside the pipes, especially friction-causing substances. If such substances enter the pump, the gears will be damaged. The inner and outer diameter sizes of the pump’s inlet and outlet pipes should not be smaller than those of the pump’s actual inlet and outlet ports. The oil inlet pipe should have a slightly larger diameter, and it is preferable for this pipe to be as short as possible. Elbows should have a large bending radius, and gate valves should be used on the pipes in order to reduce resistance. If an additional relief valve is required for the pipeline, it should be installed 20–50 cm along the outlet pipeline of the pump, with a bypass pipe leading it back to the inlet. The diameter of the bypass pipe for the relief valve is generally not less than half that of the inlet and outlet pipes. 5.6 Oil pumps do not require the installation of foot valves, as these valves create significant resistance. However, it is recommended to install a metal filter at the inlet of the oil supply pipe to prevent debris from entering the pump. The effective area of such a filter should be at least twice the area of the pipe diameter. The suction port of the oil supply pipe should be cut at a 45° angle. 5.7 The pump shaft and the motor shaft are connected using a three-claw elastic coupling, and they must be installed concentrically; if the degree of concentricity is poor, the claws of the coupling may be broken during rotation. The allowable relative offset for the two couplings shall meet the following requirements (Figure 4): radial offset ΔY ≤ 0.08 mm, angular offset α ≤ 0.5°, and axial clearance b = 2–5 mm (determined based on the size of the couplings)
