I haven’t worked with titanium materials before. I have a few heat exchangers in my possession whose tube side is made of titanium while the shell side uses 316L material and features a fixed tube sheet. Are there any things to keep in mind during the design process?
For fixed-tube-sheet heat exchangers, attention must be paid to the difference in their expansion coefficients, and expansion joints need to be designed for the shell side. For tube boxes with a titanium cladding, leak detection holes need to be provided. It is estimated that the tube sheet is also lined with titanium.
Special attention must be paid to the structure of the composite tube sheet, the joint transition between the composite plate and the flange lining, as well as the requirements for welding and expansion joining of the tube sheet and tubes; it is essential to refer to relevant standard drawings when carrying out the design.

It is no different from other heat exchangers; pay attention to indicating that the tube sheet is made of explosive clad plate, as well as its interfacial shear strength, which should be of grade B1. Check the standards for pipe holes.
