Raw material: Ethylbenzene, a Category A substance. Is it necessary to have a sealed recovery system for the drain installed on the pipeline at the outlet of the transfer pump? Could you help find the basis for this? Thank you.
At normal temperature and pressure, there is no need for sealed recovery. Simply drain and recycle it directly.
The flash point of ethylbenzene is only 72 °F, which is equivalent to 22.2°C; therefore, the emission rate at the discharge point must be kept below 1 m/s, and measures to eliminate static electricity must also be taken； In terms of environmental protection: In accordance with the requirements of the Air Pollution Prevention and Control Law of the People’s Republic of China, it is not allowed to discharge hazardous chemicals, including ethylbenzene derivatives, directly into the environment in an open manner, in order to reduce the generation of large amounts of uncontrolled VOCs; therefore, it is recommended to collect such substances in a sealed manner ；
Then make a drain valve and attach a short section, so that when draining, a hose can be connected directly.
Direct discharge of the recovered material is acceptable within the safe flow rate range; this is the method we use for Class A substances as well as flammable and explosive materials, and no problems have ever occurred
