Original title: Jinan Refining & Chemical carries out fully enclosed cleaning of large sewage tanks for the first time 2016-11-22 Source: Sinopec News, Sinopec News Network (Zhang Xuexiang) As environmental regulations become increasingly strict, the environmental pressures associated with equipment maintenance also increase. To reduce the environmental impact of equipment maintenance, from October 8 to 21, Jinan Refining & Chemical Corporation carried out the first fully enclosed mechanical cleaning of the 5,000-cubic-meter wastewater tank in its wastewater stripping unit, thereby achieving green maintenance practices. This large sewage tank has been in operation for over 3.5 years, and the large amount of sludge accumulated at the bottom of the tank represents the key challenge during this maintenance work. To achieve green maintenance, that is, without any unpleasant odors and zero emissions, the staff at Jinan Refining & Chemical’s wastewater stripping unit abandoned the previous method of using fresh water to repeatedly wash and dilute the sludge at the bottom of the tanks, and for the first time adopted a fully enclosed mechanical cleaning approach. First, they soaked the sludge at the bottom of the tank in deodorant for 24 hours to remove odors, followed by a 4-day process of gas-phase circulation inside the tank to further eliminate odors. Finally, deodorant and flocculants were added intermittently to deodorize the sludge and carry out solid-liquid separation. The fully enclosed mechanical cleaning of the large wastewater tank is completed once the sulfuride levels in both the gas and liquid phases inside the tank are below 10 ppm (1 ppm equals one part per million). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fully enclosed mechanical cleaning reduces the need for manual labor, especially in confined spaces, thereby significantly improving safety – it is worth promoting
