We are doing pipe installation, and the supervisor said that there is no groove diagram for the welding process. The welding procedure is shown as a groove diagram according to the construction drawings. Because welding does not meet the design requirements; if the requirements are too high, it results in excessive quality, while if they are too low, the design requirements cannot be satisfied. I would like to ask which engineer should provide the groove diagram: the design engineer or the welding engineer?
Designs generally specify construction standards, which the contractors follow in their work. If there are special requirements in the design drawings or specifications, follow those special requirements. If there are any ambiguities in the design or conflicts with standards, the construction party can raise objections, and the design team will provide an explanation!

Generally, a recommended diagram of joints is provided, or it is specified which standard’s diagram should be used; the welding engineer at the construction site should determine the final welding groove based on the welding procedure qualification specific to their own company.
Follow the welding procedure specification; changes in groove shape are not considered important factors in the weld evaluation criteria.
