The atmospheric and vacuum distillation unit is a term that refers to both atmospheric distillation and vacuum distillation units; since these two units are usually installed together, they are called an atmospheric and vacuum distillation unit. It mainly includes three processes: desalination and dehydration of crude oil ; atmospheric distillation ; Vacuum distillation. Principle of atmospheric distillation: Distillation, also known as fractional distillation, is a process in which a liquid is partially vaporized multiple times and a gas is partially condensed multiple times simultaneously within a distillation tower. The fundamental reason why crude oil can be separated by distillation is the difference in boiling points of its various components. During crude oil processing, the crude oil is heated to around 360–370°C and fed into a atmospheric distillation tower, where it partially vaporizes in the vaporization section. Fractions with lower boiling points such as gasoline, kerosene, light diesel, and heavy diesel vaporize first and turn into gas, while wax oil and residue remain in liquid form. Principle of vacuum distillation: A necessary condition for a liquid to boil is that its vapor pressure must equal the external pressure. Reducing external pressure is equivalent to lowering the boiling point of the liquid. The lower the pressure, the lower the boiling point. If the distillation process is carried out at a pressure lower than atmospheric pressure, this process is called vacuum distillation.
