As the title suggests: under normal circumstances, ventilation holes are required to be made in shims. But is it possible to omit these holes and instead leave 10–15 areas on the side where the shim is welded to the cylinder unwelded to serve as ventilation holes? Why? Full welding enhances strength. Vent holes: During welding, the temperature is high; after welding and as it cools down, the expansion and contraction of gases between the gasket and the cylinder can lead to a tendency for tearing. Additionally: During normal operational changes, as well as during start-up and shutdown processes, the gas present between the gasket and the cylinder can cause changes due to temperature differences between the two plates. The expansion and contraction of metal resulting from these temperature changes lead to unnecessary metal fatigue.
If it’s left unsealed for ventilation, it should also be at the bottom. Prevent corrosion from rainwater.
Will this reduce the shear force on the shimming plate?
