In the weekly best player poll conducted by Vitesse’s official website among fans, Chinese player Zhang Yuning was chosen as the best player for two consecutive weeks. In the league match last weekend, Vitesse managed to secure a 1-0 victory away from home against the promoted team SC Heerenveen. The team’s performance throughout the first 70 minutes was catastrophic; their key striker, Van Wolfwinkel, didn’t even touch the ball inside the opponent’s penalty area. In the last 20 minutes, Zhang Yuning came on as a substitute, and the team switched to a 4-4-2 formation, which proved to be highly effective. Vitesse began to launch fierce attacks on Rotterdam Sparta’s goal, and in the end it was Van Wolfwinkel who scored the winning goal with a header – it was also his only shot in the match. Fans were clearly dissatisfied with the team’s performance; on the official website’s scoring system, only Zhang Yuning scored above 7 points, receiving 7.3 points. This is the second consecutive week that Zhang Yuning has received this honor. In the league match last week, Zhang Yuning made his first start of the season in the Eredivisie; he continued his trend of scoring a goal in every match he started in, scoring 1 goal and creating several scoring opportunities for his team. After the match, he was voted Player of the Week for the first time, receiving a high rating of 8.0.
