Are sleeve valves and cage valves the same thing? What’s the difference?
The cage-type control valve is a pressure-balanced control valve; its internal components feature a pilot-operated spool guided by a sleeve. It relies primarily on the pressure of the fluid to enable rapid movement of the spool, resulting in low operating force. In addition, it features a single-seat seal design, with a high precision in its flow characteristic curve, meeting the IEC534-1 standard. The control valve features good dynamic stability, low noise, and blast resistance, making it suitable for controlling high-pressure differential fluids at various temperatures. It is equipped with a multi-spring diaphragm actuator or an electric actuator, featuring a compact structure and high output force.
In a CAGE valve, the valve element inside the valve body is guided by a sleeve. Windows are provided on the sleeve to determine the flow rate and its characteristics. Balance holes are present on the valve element to reduce unbalanced forces. CAGE valves offer a high degree of adjustability, minimal vibration, and good interchangeability; they can be used in most applications involving single- or double-seat valves. However, they are not suitable for use with media that contain particles or are quite dirty. This makes them one of the most widely used types of control valves
