In 1958, many people from across the country gathered in Dalian to learn about ammonia synthesis. The first textbook on synthetic ammonia that I read in the mid-1970s was one compiled in Dalian in 1958. Dalian played a crucial role; before the liberation, there was only one small ammonia synthesis plant each in Dalian and Nanjing, but the equipment could not be manufactured there. It was only during the Great Leap Forward that its design and production began; without the makeshift methods of workers, there would have been no way to manufacture it at all. Including the 25,000 tons at Wujing, equipment manufacturing relies on workers working hard like ants chewing through bone – and the workers in Shanghai have made a significant contribution.

It is an established fact that low-nitrogen fertilizers play a crucial role.
Given how cold it is in the northeast during winter, isn’t it possible to avoid using ammonia for cooling? Do they do this? How much electricity can this save?
