My factory has four liquid ammonia storage tanks, whose pipe flanges are connected by threads; I feel that the overall safety level is poor, so I want to replace them, but I can’t find any standards to present to my management to convince them. I would like to ask: Is it permissible to use threaded connections for the pipe flanges of liquid ammonia storage tanks? Its safety valve is also connected by threads – are there any relevant standards regarding this?

There’s nothing that prohibits its use; it’s just inconvenient, right?
Clause 5.9.2.5 of GB50316 stipulates that threaded connections are only permitted for Class D fluids (i.e., those that are non-toxic and non-flammable); therefore, threaded fittings cannot be used for liquid ammonia media.
