When the vapor load or liquid load on a certain tray is very high, it is generally necessary to change the tray diameter. 2. When the feed is subcooled liquid and the vapor load below the feed tray is greater than that above it, the distillation section needs to have its diameter changed. 3. Changing the tray diameter is done to increase the gas velocity and enhance operational flexibility
