Membrane distillation (MD) is a membrane separation technology that has been the subject of extensive research; it combines the principles of distillation processes with those of membrane processes. I used the PP membrane produced by my own company for membrane distillation; since this was my first attempt, the performance wasn’t good, with a flux of only 1.5 L/m2·h. The desalination rate is quite good, over 99.9%.
