In ASME B16.5-2009, it is possible to find out which specification of fastening bolts should be used for a given flange based on its type, diameter, and pressure class. But in which standard should one look up the specifications for the nuts that go with these bolts? There is a interstage cooler at the site, manufactured by Jiangnan Boilers for Drayson reciprocating compressors. The inlet and outlet flanges on the tube side are designed and fabricated in accordance with the ASME B16.5-2009 standard. I currently only know the specifications of the flanges; I would like to determine the specifications of the bolts and nuts used to fasten them by referring to relevant standards. I would appreciate guidance from those with experience in heat exchanger design. Thank you!
Look for it slowly inside 16.5. . . There is a recommended table for bolts, Table 1C
I’m not sure what to ask. From the flange data sheet in the standards, one can find the bolt specifications, such as 1/2\", so wouldn’t the nut also be 1/2\"?

Yes, the bolt is one inch in length, and the thread diameter of the nut is also one inch. But what about the distance between the opposite sides of the hex nut? How is this determined?

For flange standards, isn’t it required that the nuts comply with ASME B18.2.2? They are usually heavy-duty nuts.
