It’s important to enhance quality awareness and promote high-quality development. ----------------------------------------- In February 2023, large-strain pipeline steel plates with a thickness of 33 millimeters and an X80 grade were produced on an industrial scale for the first time in the world by Ansteel Group. This product will be used for the first time in the areas where active fault zones intersect the Fourth West-East Gas Pipeline project, marking a breakthrough in the development of key materials suitable for large-capacity long-distance pipelines in complex terrains. It will not only address the critical material challenges associated with the construction of long-distance oil and gas pipelines in China but also play a vital role in supporting the construction of major pipeline projects in the country, thereby contributing significantly to ensuring energy security. To meet the requirements for the construction of long-distance oil and gas pipelines, **the Pipeline Network Group has expressed an urgent need to develop materials suitable for thick-walled, high-strength pipes used in such applications under strain conditions, in order to overcome the key obstacles in the construction of long-distance oil and gas pipelines. Relying on the **Key Laboratory for Metal Materials for Marine Equipment and Their Applications**, Ansteel Group, in collaboration with relevant organizations, has carried out comprehensive and systematic research on thick-walled, high-strength, large-strain pipeline steel plates. It has uncovered the mechanisms by which key parameters such as strength, strain, and crack resistance of these steel plates can be optimized under extreme dimensional constraints, resulting in the development of several innovative technologies. This has enabled the world’s first production on an industrial scale of large-strain pipeline steel plates with a thickness of 33 millimeters and an X80 grade. The pipeline steel plates possess excellent comprehensive properties such as strength, ductility, toughness, strain resistance, as well as a wide range of thickness options. The steel pipes manufactured from these plates fully meet the technical requirements for straight-seam submerged arc welded pipes used in design in strain-prone areas, filling a gap both domestically and internationally.
