I’m encountering some issues while calculating wall thicknesses; could experts please help me out? When calculating the wall thickness of II-series pipes, the calculated wall thickness is determined using the formulas specified in GB50316; after taking into account various tolerances, the design wall thickness is finalized. Is this design wall thickness to be selected from HG/T20553? If it’s not listed under this standard, can’t it be used? The wall thickness specified in HG/T20553 is derived from GB/T17395; so can it be selected based on GB/T17395? When making a choice, how is the pipeline determined? Based on the calculated value, what is the wall thickness rounded to the standard? SH/T3059 specifies the principles for determining the minimum wall thickness of pipes; are there any other standards that address this as well?
At low pressures, the calculated wall thickness is extremely small, but it is obviously not possible to use such a thin wall thickness; generally, we opt for commonly used wall thicknesses, those that are readily available. Actually, the simplest and most convenient approach is to calculate SCH – just use the wall thickness corresponding to SCH.
Where can I find out the common wall thickness?
All standard wall thicknesses in SCH are considered. Additionally, for national standard pipes, there are also some common wall thicknesses; these are based on practical experience, and one will naturally come to know them through more communication with the construction team.
