For overly long straight sections, if welding is used throughout, wouldn’t the stress be high?
Do long-distance pipelines have flanges?
It’s not a long-distance pipeline; it’s a steam pipeline of about a thousand meters in length. Do we need to add some flanges somewhere along it?
Connection flanges are used to facilitate the disassembly or modification of pipelines, right? For long-distance pipelines, it’s possible to perform flaw detection and welding directly on the pipes themselves, right?

Flanges are completely unnecessary; they only increase the potential for leaks, and the stress effects are not as you might think. Only lined and galvanized pipes are connected using flanges, because welding would damage them. Some pipes that need to be removed at regular intervals also use flanges. Welding is preferred for other pipelines.
The purpose of pipeline connection flanges is to facilitate disassembly as well as subsequent maintenance and replacement.
I think thermal compensation is necessary, something like expansion bends or expansion joints; after all, I’m not a designer, nor am I an expert in chemical engineering.
If convenience of disassembly and transportation are not taken into account, and thermal compensation is set aside (which is of course necessary), the pipes can be welded directly to each other without using flanges; this is indeed how it is done in practice
