Maintenance of the worm gear mechanism in butterfly valves.
The handwheel is not used frequently, but it must be functional when it’s needed. Therefore, maintenance is essential.
I wonder what other tasks need to be carried out for maintenance and inspection, besides applying grease and checking for any looseness or wear, as mentioned by the original poster?
Applying grease to the moving mechanism of the valve is sufficient; no other treatment is required. Some stuck worm and gear mechanisms are the result of rust forming in the moving mechanism due to a lack of maintenance over time. Also, the sealing must be good to prevent moisture from getting in.
