If this condensate is not removed, it will accumulate inside the pipes, leading to phenomena such as water hammer and erosion. Not only will the steam pipes sink ; Pipe wall rupture can also occur when the water hammer speed is too high or the amount of condensation is large. 1. For larger-diameter steam main lines, a significant amount of condensate is generated after the system is started up; therefore, it is recommended to install drain stations every 30–50 meters, placing them at the lowest points. 2. When installing drain stations, it is necessary to ensure that condensate can reach the drain valves. Because, due to gravity, the condensate will flow along the slope of the pipe toward the lower point. 3. During normal operation, steam flows along the main pipe, carrying the condensate with it. The small-diameter hydrophobic pipes are connected directly to the bottom of the main pipe. Although the flow rate of these small-diameter pipes is sufficient, it is not possible to collect a large amount of condensate flowing along the steam main pipe. The diameter of the collection pipe should be the same as that of the steam pipe (although larger-diameter steam transport pipes may have a different diameter), and a blind flange should be installed at the bottom of the collection pipe for cleaning purposes. 4. It is recommended that the drain valve for hydrophobic pipes be installed at a distance of around 100–150 mm above the blind flange; this allows for effective drainage while also preventing debris from clogging the valve.

Additional point 1: The main steam pipe usually has a compensation pipe, and the steam trap should be installed at the first bend of this compensation pipe (in the direction of steam flow).
