We are the project owner; the pipeline systems, fittings, steel sections, bolts, gaskets, and such are purchased by the construction company. How should we conduct inspections to prevent the construction company from substituting inferior materials with higher-quality ones in order to make a profit?
For carbon steel, the main tasks are to measure the thickness and check the appearance for any deformation; For other types of steel, in addition to those, the construction party will also need to conduct spectroscopic analysis; ask them for it promptly. If you have your own spectrometer, you can use it to conduct the tests as well.

We generally follow a few steps: 1. Material inspection, including certificates of conformity, factory certificates, furnace numbers, batch information, as well as the quantity specified in the contract; 2. Visual inspection: dimensions, wall thickness, surface flatness, manufacturer’s stamp, etc. 3. Physical and chemical tests. Material analysis, hardness, tensile testing, deformation, etc. For bulk critical materials, on-site supervision during production can be considered.
