Metal wound gaskets are divided into static fluid sealing and high-speed fluid sealing. An \"inner steel ring\" is used for high-speed fluid sealing, while an outer steel ring is suitable for high-pressure static conditions. For general static fluids, steel-ring-free metal wound gaskets are used. Keep in mind that it cannot be used on metal wound gaskets without a steel ring in applications with high flow rates; once corroded or welded apart, it will cause damage to the gasket and may enter the valve opening, affecting the valve’s ability to close.
The outer diameter of the gasket should be chosen based on the size of the outer diameter of the protrusion on the flange sealing surface; in your case, it’s in conflict with the studs. .
The outer ring of the inner and outer gaskets already serves a positioning function, so it is normal for it to be close to the bolt. The shape of the gasket in the image may be due to a product quality issue (excessively large outer diameter), or it could be caused by excessive pre-tensioning force.
