Article 6.2.25 of the \"Code for Fire Protection Design of Petrochemical Enterprises (2018 Edition)“ (GB 50160-2008) stipulates that the inlet and outlet pipelines of above-ground storage tanks for flammable liquids shall be equipped with flexible connections. What does a flexible connection refer to here?
My understanding is that flexibility is the opposite of rigidity; by rigidity, I mean a situation in which the storage tank is subjected to forces from the pipes, while flexibility means that no such forces are applied. In such cases, hoses are used for connection, as hoses transmit forces less effectively, which is why it is called a flexible connection

In my opinion, the use of corrugated expansion joints or metal hoses is intended primarily to prevent leaks caused by foundation settlement or pipe vibration!
It can be said that the flexible calculation of pipelines you mentioned is different from the flexible connections discussed here

Many tanks are not equipped with metal hoses or expansion joints; don’t waste money needlessly and compromise safety. Many reference books on pressure pipeline piping design provide detailed explanations

For specific details, refer to Section 5.3.10 of SH/T 3007-2014 and the explanatory notes for that section; not all pipelines require flexible connections. The screenshot is as follows:
