I’m currently working on an inter-plant pipeline that is about ten kilometers long and has a diameter of 200. Can a water hammer absorber be installed to reduce water hammer effects? Benzene material
I don’t think I’ve seen anything like this before; adding a buffer tank is something common
This is similar to a pipeline pressure damper; in some places it is called a pressure regulator. It is generally used in situations with low flow rate and high pressure (in oil circuits), or high flow rate and low pressure (in water circuits).
I didn’t expect it, but the principle does seem to work. One issue that deserves attention is that when the pressure in the pipeline system drops to a certain level, the piston moves close to the bottom. If water hammer occurs at this time, it can lead to collisions between the piston and the bottom. It’s not clear how to prevent this, so it’s something worth considering. If it’s a direct seating, then it doesn’t matter.
So this device has its scope of application; it’s not unlimited! Additionally, the interior is mostly composed of a nitrogen-filled balloon, or some mechanical reed mechanism; in the case of a mechanical mechanism, there is a limit device at the bottom, so it cannot sink indefinitely!
What worries me is the issue of the bottom limit hitting the piston :)
So the manufacturers will also provide appropriate recommendations; otherwise, maintenance later on will be too troublesome!
