In RT pressure vessels and tanks, a component with a thickness of around 50 mm is used. During the processing of this component, it was found that steel plates of the same thickness could be used for fabrication. Would using steel plates instead of forged parts to manufacture such components violate any regulations or industry standards? What issues need to be noted during use?
Please let the design institute make the decision; don’t be overly clever on your own.

It’s better not to. For forgings, after processing is complete, steps such as heat treatment are usually carried out to ensure desired properties, whereas with sheets, it’s not possible to guarantee such properties
So if I specify the same heat treatment requirements for the sheet metal as those for forgings when purchasing them, can forgings be considered a substitute for sheet metal in that sense?
Steel plates are used in place of forgings. I don’t know how you carry out the design process; firstly, their manufacturing processes are different, and the standards for quality inspection also differ greatly. It’s not possible to simply set a procurement standard and use steel plates as a substitute. When doing design, don’t rely on assumptions; at the very least, you should carefully study the basic safety regulations and GBT150.
The concept as it is now is only in the exploratory stage; it’s not something I want to design this way, and limitations in manufacturing capabilities are also a factor. Perhaps my understanding of tolerance specifications and 150 isn’t deep enough. Could you tell me in which section it is mentioned that, when the external dimensions are the same, forgings and sheets cannot be used interchangeably? I truly seek advice
